The South Carolina Gamecocks and the LSU Tigers meet in SEC Week 8 college football action from Tiger Stadium on Saturday.
The South Carolina Gamecocks will look to build on back-to-back wins coming in the form of a 30-22 win over Auburn last time out. Collin Hill has thrown for 842 yards, 4 touchdowns and a pair of interceptions on 62.7% passing while Kevin Harris has 409 rushing yards and 6 rushing TDs. Shi Smith leads South Carolina’s receiving group with 34 grabs for 347 yards and 3 touchdowns while Nick Muse and Xavier Legette each have 100+ receiving yards this season. Defensively, Ernest Jones leads South Carolina with 36 total tackles including 21 solo tackles while Jaycee Horn has a pair of INTs for the Gamecocks. Kingsley Enagbare has a team-high 4 sacks and Keir Thomas also has 3 sacks for the Gamecocks this year.
The LSU Tigers will look to bounce back from a 45-41 loss to Missouri and have yet to have a shot at a rebound with their last game against Florida ending up postponed. Myles Brennan has thrown for 1,112 yards, 11 touchdowns and 3 interceptions on 60.3% passing while John Emery Jr. leads the Tigers in rushing with 137 rushing yards and Tyrion Davis-Price has 110 rushing yards. Terrace Marshall Jr. has a team-high 31 catches for 424 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns while Arik Gilbert, Jaray Jenkins and Kayshon Brooks all have 100+ receiving yards with Gilbert owning 177 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. Defensively, Damone Clark leads LSU with 23 total tackles, while JaCoby Stevens has 22 tackles and Jabril Cox has 21 total tackles with a team-high 15 solo tackles. Stevens has a pair of sacks while Eli Ricks has a pair of interceptions.
South Carolina is 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 games overall and 9-2-1 ATS in their last 12 games as a road underdog while the under is 22-9 in their last 31 games following a win. LSU is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games while the under is 11-5 in their last 16 games following a loss. The road team is 5-0 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
Laying the points with LSU at home would make sense, but something just feels off about this year’s LSU team. I mean that’s what having a bunch of your team leaving for the NFL after a national championship will do, but you’d still expect some success in the turnover with Brennan under center. The problem is that nothing’s really clicked outside of the Tigers’ win over Vanderbilt and LSU just keeps underperforming. South Carolina’s been up and down, but the Gamecocks have been solid ATS and could be 4-0 ATS and 3-1 SU if not for falling short in the season opener against Tennessee. I’ll take a shot with South Carolina and the points in a game I could see South Carolina winning outright.
