The Alabama Crimson Tide and the Tennessee Volunteers meet in an SEC week 8 college football matchup from Neyland Stadium on Saturday.
The Alabama Crimson Tide will look to add to their 4-0 record after picking up a massive 41-24 win over Georgia last time out. Mac Jones has thrown for 1,518 yards, 12 touchdowns and 2 interceptions on 78.3% passing while Najee Harris has rushed for 499 yards and 11 touchdowns. Brian Robinson Jr. has 174 rushing yards while Jaylen Waddle leads Alabama in receiving with 557 receiving yards on 25 catches with 4 touchdowns. Defensively, Dylan Moses has a team-high 37 total tackles, including 19 solo tackles while Jordan Battle has 28 total tackles and Christian Harris has 26 total tackles including 19 solo tackles of his own. Daniel Wright and Malachi Moore each have a pair of interceptions as well this season.
The Tennessee Volunteers will try to rebound from back-to-back losses after a 34-7 loss to Kentucky plummeted the Vols back to .500 at 2-2. Jarrett Guarantano has thrown for 752 yards, 4 touchdowns and 3 interceptions on 63.1% passing while Eric Gray has a team-high 298 rushing yards and a pair of TDs and Ty Chandler has 238 rushing yards with two scores of his own. Josh Palmer leads Tennessee in receiving with 15 grabs for 238 yards and 3 TDs while Brandon Johnson and Eric Gray each have 13 receptions and 100+ receiving yards this season. Defensively, Henry To’o To’o has a team-high 31 total tackles, 15 solo tackles and an interception while Deandre Johnson has a team-high 3.5 sacks.
Alabama is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 road games and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games as a road favorite while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall. Tennessee is 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 8-18 ATS in their last 26 home games while the under is 5-2 in their last 7 conference games. Alabama is 11-4-1 ATS in the last 16 meetings between these two teams and 8-1 ATS in the last 9 meetings between these two teams at Tennessee.
This is a tough one to call as it’s a lot of points to pass up with a home dog as good as Tennessee. However, the Vols haven’t been consistent on offense like they were as the season went on last year and carrying over into this season, as the Vols were throttled by a Georgia team that Alabama put the boots to last week, and followed that up by not showing up against Kentucky. Alabama’s had their moments, but the Tide are simply the stronger team offensively, and have everything it takes to cover this large number on the road, so I’ll lay the points with Bama in this spot.
