The Memphis Tigers and the Cincinnati Bearcats meet Saturday in Week 9 AAC college football action from Nippert Stadium.
Memphis enters this one at 3-1 so far this year. The Tigers fell in a tough one to SMU, but otherwise have beaten Arkansas State, UCF and Temple. As for the Bearcats, they’re 4-0 so far. Cincinnati has taken out Austin Peay, Army, South Florida and SMU in succession this season. Check back all season long for free college football picks at Sports Chat Place.
Memphis has been pretty impressive so far, showcasing some nice scoring capabilities. The Tigers have at least 37 points in each of their wins, but it’s also worth noting that they’ve given up at least 24 points in every game as well. Memphis’ most recent victory came last weekend 41-29 over Temple.
In the victory over the Owls, Memphis quarterback Brady White put up 313 yards, four touchdowns and an interception while Rodrigues Clark had 22 rushes for 106 yards. Calvin Austin led the Tigers receivers with six catches for 184 yards and a touchdown of his own in that one.
Over on the Bearcats’ side, there’s not much to complain about so far. Cincinnati’s tightest win so far was a 14-point affair over Army 24-10, and aside from that it’s been all blowouts. The Bearcats have taken out Austin Peay 55-20, USF 28-7 and SMU 42-13.
In the victory over SMU, Cincinnati quarterback Desmond Ridder posted 126 yards with a touchdown on 13-of-21 passing. Tre Tucker had two catches for 24 yards, but the offense was mostly on the ground. Ridder had 179 yards and three rush TDs, and Gerrid Doaks added 105 yards with two more scores.
Memphis is 1-4 ATS in their last five games as an underdog and 1-4 ATS in their last five conference games. The Tigers are 1-6 ATS in the last seven games overall and 1-6 ATS in their last seven games on turf.
Meanwhile, the Bearcats are 4-0 ATS versus a team with a winning record and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games overall. Cincinnati is 5-2 ATS in the last seven games on turf and the under is 5-0 in their last five after an ATS win.
PICK: I have to stick with Cincinnati here; the team is rolling. The Bearcats rolled up a whopping 313 rush yards versus SMU, giving up just 75 yards on the ground themselves. Oddly enough Cincinnati lost the time of possession battle but scored quickly and efficiently when they had the ball; the Mustangs had no answer. I like another big outing from the Bearcats here and a solid cover.
