The undefeated and nationally ranked Coastal Carolina Chanticleers and the Georgia State Panthers meet in a Sun Belt college football matchup from Center Parc Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers will look to keep their unbeaten run going after improving to 5-0 with a 28-14 win over Georgia Southern last time out. Grayson McCall has thrown for 930 yards, 11 touchdowns and an interception on 67.8% passing, but missed the last game due to an upper body injury, leaving former starter Fred Payton to throw for 252 yards, 3 touchdowns and 2 picks on 51.7% passing. CJ Marable has 282 rushing yards to lead Coastal, along with 4 touchdowns, while McCall has 184 yards with 3 touchdowns and Reese White has 181 yards with a pair of ground TDs. Shermari Jones also has a pair of rushing touchdowns with 165 rushing yards. Jaivon Heiligh leads Coastal’s receiving group with 25 grabs for 434 yards and 4 touchdowns while Isaiah Likely has 215 receiving yards and 3 scores. Sam Denmark, Kameron Brown and Marable each have 100+ receiving yards with Brown logging a pair of touchdowns and Marable recording 3 receiving TDs. Defensively, Teddy Gallagher leads Coastal with 39 total tackles while Silas Kelly has 37 total tackles with 19 solo tackles and 3 sacks. C.J. Brewer and Jeffrey Gunter each have a team-high 3.5 sacks while D’Jordan Strong has 3 interceptions.
The Georgia State Panthers will look to rebound from a 1-2 mark in conference play after picking up a 36-34 win over Troy last time out. Cornelius Brown IV has thrown for 917 yards, 9 touchdowns and 4 interceptions on 59.1% passing while Destin Coates leads Georgia State in rushing with 378 rushing yards and 3 TDs. Tucker Gregg has 219 rushing yards and 3 scores as well while Brown IV has called his own number for 186 yards and 4 touchdowns. Sam Pinckney leads Georgia State in receiving with 22 grabs for 354 yards and 5 touchdowns and Roger Carter has 11 catches for 160 yards and 3 scores. Defensively, Antavious Lane leads GSU with 29 total tackles including 25 solo tackles and a pair of interceptions while Quavian White has two picks as well and Jordan Strachan has a team-high 5 sacks.
Coastal Carolina is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 road games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall while the under is 5-2 in their last 7 conference games. Georgia State is 4-9-2 ATS in their last 15 games against a team with a winning record and 6-2-1 ATS in their last 9 home games while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 games overall.
This is a hard game to call as Coastal’s been rock solid so far this season, but Georgia State’s been in every game that they’ve played up to this point. The Chanticleers and Panthers are also pretty even offensively, with GSU scoring 42 points per game to Coastal’s 38.2. The big difference here is that Coastal is only allowing 21.6 points per game while Georgia State is one of the worst defensive teams in the country, allowing 39 points per game. I think that the Georgia State defense will bring it to Coastal though, so I’ll hope for a shootout and side with the over in this one.
