The Arkansas State Red Wolves and the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns meet Saturday in Week 10 Sunbelt Conference college football action from Cajun Field.
Arkansas State enters this one at 3-4 on the year. The Red Wolves have lost consecutive games, falling to Appalachian State and Troy in that time. As for Louisiana, they’re 5-1 this year. The Cajuns have won back-to-back outings over UAB and Texas State. Check back all season long for free college football picks at Sports Chat Place.
The Red Wolves have had a pretty up-and-down season so far. Arkansas State started out at 1-2 with losses to Coastal Carolina and Memphis alongside a nice win over Kansas State. After two more wins over Central Arkansas and Georgia State, the Red Wolves have gone flat with losses to App State 45-17 and Troy 38-10.
In the loss to the Trojans, Arkansas State quarterbacks Logan Bonner and Layne Hatcher combined for 271 yards and a touchdown, while Lincoln Pare added 90 yards on 12 carries. Tops in receiving for the Red Wolves was Dahu Green with four catches for 75 yards.
Over on the Louisiana side, they’ve been pretty impressive overall despite some close finishes. The Cajuns’ one loss came 30-27 to Coastal Carolina in a tight game, and since then Louisiana has bounced back with wins 24-20 over UAB and 44-34 over Texas State.
In the victory over Texas State, Louisiana quarterback Levi Lewis posted 332 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Trey Ragas was the top rusher with 131 yards and three touchdowns on 19 carries, and Jalen Williams topped the receivers on 85 yards from three catches.
The Red Wolves are 4-1 ATS in their last five after an ATS loss and 4-1 ATS in their last five after a straight-up loss. Arkansas State is 1-4 ATS in their last five conference games and 1-4 ATS versus a team with a winning record.
Meanwhile, the Cajuns are 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall and 1-6 ATS in their last seven as a favorite. Louisiana is 0-6 ATS in their last six conference games and 0-4 ATS in their last four games on turf.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Louisiana here. Arkansas State has had some nice outings this season, but they’ve fallen flat in their last two games. Granted, Troy and App State are good teams, but the Red Wolves have only mustered 27 points combined over those two outings. Louisiana has a pretty well-balanced offense and has hit 20 points or more in every game, so I like the Cajuns on a cover.
