The SMU Mustangs and the Temple Owls meet in AAC wwek 10 college football action from Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday afternoon in a battle of teams with bowl hopes.
The SMU Mustangs come into this game looking to build off of their 51-37 win over Navy last time out to improve to 6-1 on the year. Shane Buechele has thrown for 2,226 yards, 16 touchdowns and 3 interceptions on 66.3% passing while Ulysses Bentley IV has 695 rushing yards and 10 rushing scores this season. TJ McDaniel has 297 rushing yards and Tyler Levine has 197 yards on the ground this season. Rashee Rice leads SMU with 34 catches for 521 yards and 4 touchdowns while Danny Gray and Kylen Granson each have 300+ receiving yards this season with Gray adding 342 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns. Tyler Page has 252 receiving yards and Austin Upshaw and the aforementioned Bentley IV each have 100+ receiving yards this season. Defensively, Delano Robinson leads SMU with 53 total tackles including a team-high 41 solo tackles with 3 sacks while Richard McBryde also has 3 sacks and Elijah Chatman has 3 sacks as well. Brandon Crossley also has a team-high 3 INTs for SMU this season.
The Temple Owls could use a win to bounce back from a 1-3 record after a 38-3 loss to Tulane last time out. Anthony Russo has thrown for 863 yards, 9 touchdowns and 6 picks on 68.1% passing while Re’Mahn Davis has a team-high 308 rushing yards this season. Randle Jones has a team-high 284 receiving yards while Jadan Blue leads Temple with 31 catches for 266 yards and 5 touchdowns and Branden Mack has 227 yards with 3 touchdowns. David Martin-Robinson also has 108 receiving yards for the Owls this season. Defensively, William Kwenkeu leads the Owls with 28 total tackles while Arnold Ebiketie has 27 total tackles with a team-high 18 solo tackles and a pair of sacks and Amir Tyler has 18 solo tackles as well this season.
SMU is 1-6 ATS in their last 7 road games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games as a road favorite while the over is 12-4 in their last 16 games following an ATS win. Temple is 22-9 ATS in their last 31 games as an underdog and 9-4 ATS in their last 13 home games while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 home games. The over is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.
I’m not sure it’s possibly for Temple to play any worse than they did against Tulane and maybe getting back home will help the Owls. The problem for Temple is that SMU fires on such a high level offensively and while the Owls have scored well so far this season, they’ve been giving up points in bunches even faster and I’m just not sure the Owls have what it takes to hang with SMU here. It’s not ideal laying this many points on the road, but I think SMU runs right past the Owls here. I’ll lay the points with the Mustangs in this one.
