The Eastern Michigan Eagles and the Ball State Cardinals meet Wednesday in MAC college football action from Scheumann Stadium in Indiana.
Eastern Michigan enters this one at 0-1 on the 2020 season. The Eagles fell in a close one to Kent State last Wednesday. As for the Cardinals, they’re also 0-1 so far in 2020. Ball State fell by a score to Miami-OH in their first game. Check back all season long for free college football picks at Sports Chat Place.
Eastern Michigan is coming out of a pretty mediocre season in 2019, finishing 6-7 with a 3-5 record in the MAC. The Eagles earned a trip to the Quick Lane Bowl, but fell 34-30 to Pittsburgh. Eastern Michigan’s first game of 2020 didn’t go so well against Kent State and ended up being a 27-23 loss for the Eagles.
In the loss to Kent State, Eastern Michigan quarterback Preston Hutchinson posted 241 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Darius Boone was the top rusher there on 68 yards from nine caries, and Hassan Beydoun had nine grabs for 112 yards to lead the receivers.
Over on the Ball State side, they had a pretty tepid 2019 as well, finishing 5-7 overall and 4-4 in the MAC. That record left the Cardinals in third place in the West Division and out of bowl game contention. 2020 opened up in disappointing fashion for the Cardinals as well, as they fell 38-31 to Miami-OH in their opener.
In the loss to the RedHawks, Ball State quarterback Drew Plitt had 309 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Caleb Huntley did most of the work rushing on 21 carries, 130 yards and two touchdowns, while Justin Hall topped the receivers with 124 yards and a score off four catches.
The Eagles are 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last five games on turf. Eastern Michigan is 2-5 ATS versus a team with a losing record and 21-6 ATS in the last 27 road games.
Meanwhile, the Cardinals are 12-25 ATS in their last 37 home games and 8-18 ATS in their last 26 games in November. Ball State is 1-6 ATS in their last seven Wednesday games and 1-6 ATS in their last seven Wednesday games.
PICK: I’m going Ball State here. The Cardinals showcased a pretty well-balanced offensive attack (minus a few mistakes) in their first game, and actually had a 14-10 lead going into halftime. Ball State coughed up 28 points after that however, and ended up losing a tough one despite a good offensive effort. EMU can score as well and this one should be tight (at least initially), but I like the Cardinals to power out a cover in the end.
