This game has been canceled. The Utah Utes and UCLA Bruins meet Saturday in week 11 PAC-12 college football action at the Rose Bowl.
The Utah Utes will make their season debut after their meeting with Washington was canceled due to COVID-19 issues. The Utah Utes have won three straight road games. Drew Lisk will takeover at quarterback after just nine pass attempts last season. Brant Kuithe and Bryan Thompson gives Utah a receiving duo that combined for over 1,000 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. With Utah losing its top-two rushers, Devin Brumfield should get more carries after averaging 4.46 yards per carry on 59 attempts. Defensively, Devin Lloyd returns after leading Utah with 91 tackles, Mika Tafua had three sacks and Maxs Tupai had 3.5 tackles for loss. The Utah Utes have clear questions at quarterback and lost a ton of production from a defense that was one of the best in the country. Kyle Whittingham is a hell of a head coach and Utah usually finds a way, but there’s a lot of new faces to get used to before declaring the Utes as a threat in the PAC-12 this season.
The UCLA Bruins lost their season opener to Colorado and hope to avoid a third straight 0-2 start. The UCLA Bruins have lost four of their last six home games. Dorian Thompson-Robinson is completing 50 percent of his passes for 303 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. Thompson-Robinson has two or more touchdown passes in five of his last seven games. Greg Dulcich and Demetric Felton have combined for 172 receiving yards and two touchdowns while Kyle Philips has three receptions. The UCLA Bruins ground game is averaging 175 yards per contest, and Thompson-Robinson leads the way with 109 yards and one touchdown. Defensively, UCLA is allowing 48 points and 525 yards per game. Stephan Blaylock leads the UCLA Bruins with 11 tackles, Caleb Johnson has one sack and Quentin Lake has one pas deflection.
The Utes are 8-1 ATS in their last 9 conference games, 5-0 ATS vs. a team with a losing record and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games overall. The Bruins are 4-10-1 ATS in their last 15 home games, 0-4 ATS in their last 4 Friday games and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall. The under is 8-3-1 in Utes last 12 games overall. The over is 5-2-1 in Bruins last 8 games overall. The Utes are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 meetings in UCLA and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 meetings.
Whittingham is one of my favorite coaches in college football and I trust he'll have his team ready, but there's a lot of missing production from last years roster and breaking in a new quarterback on the road is always difficult. The UCLA Bruins were awful defensively in their season opener, but the offense put up numbers and they still had a chance to win despite turning the ball over four times. While it was a losing effort, there was enough flashes in that performance that convinces you Chip Kelly my have finally figured things out. We're getting points with a team at home that was explosive offensively against a team making its season debut nd has a lot of new faces on both sides of the ball.
Give me UCLA and the points.
