This game has been postponed. The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers and the Troy Trojans meet Saturday in college football action from Troy University Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Coastal Carolina enters this one at 7-0 this season. Over their last three games, the Chanticleers have beaten Georgia Southern, Georgia State and South Alabama. As for Troy, they’re 4-3 so far. The Trojans are 1-2 in their last three games, with a win over Arkansas State between losses to Georgia State and Georgia Southern. Coastal Carolina hasn’t had many issues with any team this year so far. The Chanticleers have 28 or more points in six of their seven games, and just one result came by a margin of less than two scores (30-27 versus Louisiana). Coastal is coming off another big win, 23-6 versus South Alabama.
In the win over the Jaguars, Coastal Carolina QB Grayson McCall posted 209 yards with one TD, and Reese White rushed for 81 yards on nine carries. Jaivon Heiligh added five catches for 95 yards in the victory for the Chanticleers as well.
Over on the Troy side, it’s been a pretty uneven result through seven games so far. The Trojans started out the season at 3-1 but they’ve since slipped on a 1-2 run. Troy fell to Georgia State in a tough one 36-34, then beat Arkansas State 38-10 before losing to Georgia Southern last weekend 20-13.
In the loss to Georgia Southern, Troy quarterback Jacob Free put up 201 yards with two interceptions, while Kaylon Geiger had six catches for 49 yards. Jamontez Woods led an ineffective rush in that one with 23 yards from three carries.
The Chanticleers are 4-0-1 ATS in their last five games overall and 4-0-1 ATS in their last five conference games. Coastal Carolina is 6-0 ATS in the last six road games and 4-1 ATS in their last five games on turf.
Meanwhile, Troy is 4-1 ATS in their last five games after a straight-up loss and 4-9 ATS in their last 13 on turf. The Trojans are 0-4 ATS versus a team with a winning record and the under is 4-0 in their last four after a straight-up loss.
PICK: I’m sticking with Coastal Carolina in this one. The Chanticleers do have some tough games coming up to finish out the season, but should be able to handle the likes of Troy. The Trojans offense has been solid this year with 31 or more points in five of seven games, but they’re also vulnerable on defense to high-flying teams like Coastal Carolina. This should be a pretty fun one to watch but ultimately I like the Chanticleers to pull away.
