The Rockets came out of the gate firing, beating Bowling Green 38-3. Toledo quarterback Eli Peters posted 214 yards and four touchdowns in the victory, while Shakif Seymour had 93 yards and a TD on 13 rushes. Bryce Mitchell managed 58 yards and a score on three receptions there as well.
Toledo took a tough loss to Western Michigan 41-38 in their last game, giving up 20 points in the fourth quarter. Peters put up 339 yards, one TD and a pick there, while Bryant Koback led the rush on 78 yards and two TDs off 24 carries. Isaiah Winstead was the top receiver on 96 yards from four catches.
Over on the Eastern Michigan side, they opened up with a 27-23 loss to Kent State. Eagles quarterback Preston Hutchinson had 241 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions in the loss, and Darius Boone added 68 yards on nine carries. Hassan Beydoun was the lead receiver on nine catches for 112 yards.
The Eagles’ second game was another tough loss: 38-31 to Ball State. Hutchinson had 250 yards and a TD in that one, while Tanner Knue posted 121 yards on eight catches. Hutchinson also led the rush in the losing effort with 104 yards and three scores on 17 carries.
The Rockets are 4-11 ATS in their last 15 games after a straight-up win and 1-4 ATS in their last five after an ATS loss. Toledo is 1-4 ATS in their last five Wednesday games and 1-5 ATS in their last six overall.
Meanwhile, the Eagles are 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall and 5-1 ATS in their last six games on turf. Eastern Michigan is 4-1 ATS in their last five conference games and 4-1 ATS in their last five in November.
PICK: I like Eastern Michigan here. Sure, it’s been two tough losses for the Eagles and they’ve suffered a couple of fourth-quarter lapses that torpedoed what would have been victories. That said, EMU has displayed some pretty good offensive prowess and should be able to put up some points here. It should be an entertaining game all around and I think the Eagles can eke in there.
