The Western Michigan Broncos and the Central Michigan Chippewas meet in college football rivalry MAC-tion from Kelly/Shorts Stadium on Wednesday night in a matchup of unbeaten teams.
The Western Michigan Broncos will look to build on their 2-0 start after a 41-38 win over Toledo last time out. Kaleb Eleby has thrown for 546 yards and 6 touchdowns on 71.1% passing while Sean Tyler leads WMU in rushing with 168 rushing yards and La’Darius Jefferson has 104 rushing yards this season. D’Wayne Eskeridge leads the Broncos with 10 catches for 245 yards and 3 touchdowns while Skyy Moore has 118 receiving yards and the aforementioned Tyler also has 10 receptions. Treshaun Hayward and Bricen Garner each have a team-high 20 total tackles including 10 solo tackles while Ali Fayad and Marshawn Kneeland each have a pair of sacks.
The Central Michigan Chippewas will look to build on their own 2-0 start to the year after a 40-10 win over Northern Illinois in their last game. Daniel Richardson has thrown for 439 yards, 3 touchdowns and an interception on 60% passing while Kobe Lewis has rushed for 171 yards and 3 TDs and Lew Nichols III has 122 rushing yards this season. Dallas Dixon leads CMU’s receiving group with 6 catches for 113 yards while Kalil Pimpleton has a team-high 9 catches as well this season. Defensively, George Douglas leads Central Michigan with 17 total tackles including 11 solo tackles while Troy Hairston II has a team-high 3 sacks and Amir Siddiq has a pair of sacks this season.
Western Michigan is 2-7 ATS in their last 9 road games and 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 conference games. Central Michigan is 7-1 ATS in their last 8 home games and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games overall while the over is 6-2 in their last 8 conference games. Western Michigan is 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings between these two teams at Central Michigan.
This is a rivalry like no other in the MAC, so you can normally throw trends out the window. However, while Western Michigan’s looked dominant on offense and rallied for the win against Toledo with that jaw-dropping fake spike to win the game, the Broncos should’ve lost that game but the Rockets handed the game over to Western Michigan late. This will be the toughest test that the Broncos have had to date, as Central Michigan’s been solid defensively up to this point. The Broncos have had all of the success at Kelly/Shorts for some time now, but Central Michigan’s been strong ATS at home dating back to last year and I think the Chippewas keep that going with a win and cover in this one. I’ll lay the points with Central Michigan here.
