The Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks and the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs meet Saturday in college football action from Independence Stadium.
Louisiana-Monroe enters this game at 0-8 on the year. In their last four games, the Warhawks have lost to Liberty, South Alabama, Appalachian State and Georgia State. As for Louisiana Tech, they’re 4-3 this year. The Bulldogs had consecutive losses going before taking out UAB in overtime on Halloween. There aren’t a lot of positives to fish out of Louisiana-Monroe’s season so far; it’s been quite the lost campaign. The Warhawks have given up 31 or more points in every single game this year, and have hit 30 or more points themselves just twice. LA-Monroe’s latest game was a 52-34 loss to Georgia State.
In the loss to the Panthers, Louisiana-Monroe quarterback Jeremy Hunt posted 339 yards with three touchdowns, while Kadyn Roach led the rush on 34 yards and a TD off eight carries. Perry Carter topped the receivers there with 124 yards and two TDs on four catches.
Over on the Louisiana Tech side, they’ve had their fair share of tough losses this season but also have a few nice games under their collective belt. The Bulldogs took a couple of tough losses 35-17 to Marshall and 27-26 to UTSA, but bounced back with a gritty overtime win 37-34 over UAB in their last game.
In the win over the Blazers, LA Tech quarterback Aaron Allen put up 191 yards with two touchdowns, and Israel Tucker had 17 carries for 54 yards. Adrian Hardy logged 101 yards with two touchdowns off seven receptions to lead the team in the victory.
The Warhawks are 5-1 ATS versus a team with a losing record and 5-1 ATS in their last six neutral-site games. UL-Monroe is 7-15 ATS in their last 22 games overall and 10-25 ATS in their last 35 games on grass.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs are 6-1 ATS in their last seven versus the Sun Belt and 5-1 ATS versus a team with a losing record. LA Tech is 4-1 ATS in their last five non-conference games and 9-4 ATS in their last 13 after a straight-up win.
PICK: I’m sticking with Louisiana Tech here. I simply can’t find a whole lot of reasons to think LA-Monroe will get close in this game. The 34 points versus Georgia Tech was their highest of the season, but in the three games prior the Bulldogs managed a combined 34 points total. Louisiana Tech should have plenty of firepower to set the pace here, and I like the Bulldogs on a big cover.
