Notre Dame hasn’t shown a lot of weaknesses this season, even against some of the top-level teams. The Irish rolled through Duke 27-13, USF 52-0, Florida State 42-26, Louisville 12-7, Pittsburgh 45-3 and Georgia Tech 31-13 in their first six games. After that it was a close OT escape 47-40 over Clemson, and a nice 45-31 win over Boston College.
In the win over the Eagles, Notre Dame quarterback Ian Book posted 283 yards and three touchdowns, while also leading the rush with 85 yards and a TD on 10 carries. Tops in receiving there was Avery Davis with two catches for 70 yards.
Over on the North Carolina side, they’ve been showcasing some great talent this year as well, with a few close games mixed in there. The Tar Heels’ only two losses came by tight margins: 31-28 to Florida State and 44-41 to Virginia. In the last pair it’s been high-scoring victory, 56-24 over Duke and 59-53 over Wake Forest.
In the win over the Deacons, North Carolina quarterback Sam Howell put up 550 yards with six touchdowns and an interception, while Javonte Williams had 101 yards and a TD rushing on 13 carries. Dazz Newsome was the lead receiver with 189 yards and two scores from 10 catches, and Dyami Brown had eight grabs for 163 and two scores.
The Irish are 6-0 ATS in their last six games in November and 5-0 ATS versus a team with a winning record. Notre Dame is 5-1 ATS in their last six road games and 4-1 ATS in their last five games on grass.
Meanwhile, the Tar Heels are 4-0 ATS in their last four after an ATS loss and 4-1 ATS in their last five home games. The over is 4-0 in North Carolina’s last four overall and they’re 1-4 ATS in their last four after a straight-up win.
PICK: I’m going North Carolina. There’s a lot of potential for offense/scoring in this matchup, so the over number might be fun to play with as well. Notre Dame has allowed a lot of points in their last two games: a combined 71 to Clemson and Boston College. The Tar Heels have been scoring consistently this season and have notched 115 points across their last two games. This should be a fun matchup, and I think North Carolina can stay within range here.
