The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets host the Duke Blue Devils when they face off on Saturday in ACC college football action from Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta.
Duke enters this one at 2-6 on the year. The Blue Devils are 1-2 over their last three games, with a win over Charlotte between losses to NC State and North Carolina. As for Georgia Tech, they’re 2-5 this season. The Yellow Jackets are on a three-game losing streak, falling to Clemson, Boston College and Notre Dame in that time. Duke took a while to get going this year, but they’re showing signs of life lately. The Blue Devils came out with losses to Notre Dame, Boston College, Virginia and Virginia Tech in succession, but got closer on the scoreboard each time. Duke beat Syracuse and Charlotte over their next three games, but took a step back with a 56-24 loss to North Carolina their last time out.
In the loss to the Tar Heels, Duke quarterback Chase Brice posted 155 yards and an interception on 11-of-23 passing. Darrell Harding led the receivers with five catches for 70 yards, and Mataeo Durant had 132 yards and a score on 11 carries.
Over on the Georgia Tech side, they had a couple of good efforts in their first four games, going 2-2 in that stretch with wins 16-13 over Florida State and 46-27 over Louisville. Since then it’s been three tough matchups and three big losses: 73-7 to Clemson, 48-27 to Boston College and 31-13 to Notre Dame.
In the loss to the Irish, Georgia Tech quarterback Jeff Sims posted 150 yards on 15-of-26 passing, and Jahmyr Gibbs had 14 carries for 61 yards. Jalen Camp led the receivers with 64 yards on three receptions there as well.
The Devils are 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games and 3-8 ATS in the last 11 on grass. Duke is 1-5 ATS in their last six in November and 2-6-1 ATS versus a team with a losing record.
Meanwhile, the Jackets are 3-10 ATS in their last 13 home games and 0-6 ATS in their last six after an ATS win. Georgia Tech is 6-16 ATS in their last 22 overall and 2-5 ATS in their last seven in November.
PICK: I’m going Duke, but this should be a pretty interesting matchup. The Blue Devils have posted some pretty impressive scoring outings over the last five games or so, like 31 points against Virginia Tech, 38 versus Syracuse, 53 versus Charlotte, etc. Duke should have some scoring opportunities here, so it’s going to be up to Georgia Tech to get the running game going and limit the opposition’s possessions. When the dust settles I think Duke pulls off a cover, but this one could be tight initially.
