The Toledo Rockets host the Ball State Cardinals for their meeting Saturday in Week 13 MAC college football action from the Glass Bowl.
Ball State comes in at 2-1 so far. The Cardinals lost to Miami-OH in the opener, but since have beaten Eastern Michigan and Northern Illinois. As for Toledo, they’re 2-1 as well. The Rockets have a loss to Western Michigan alongside wins over Bowling Green and Eastern Michigan. Check back all season long for free college football picks at Sports Chat Place.
Ball State has played three tight games so far, and won two of them. The outlier was the opener versus Miami-OH, a game the Cardinals lost 38-31. Ball State got into the win column with a 38-31 win over Eastern Michigan in their second game, then followed that up with a win over Northern Illinois 31-25.
In the win over the Huskies, Ball State quarterback Drew Plitt posted 214 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Caleb Huntley led the rushing attack with 25 carries for 103 yards and one TD, and Yo’Heinz Tyler added 108 yards and a score off seven receptions.
Over on the Toledo side, they’ve had some nice offensive output this season, and really only one “bad” defensive game. The Rockets rolled Toledo 38-3 in the opener, then took a tough loss versus Western Michigan 41-38. Toledo was able to bounce back in their last game November 18 versus Eastern Michigan with a 45-28 win, however.
In the win over the Eagles, Toledo QBs Eli Peters and Carter Bradley combined for 298 yards and four touchdowns, while Bryant Koback led the rush with 149 yards and a score from 24 carries. Ronnie Blackmon added 88 yards and a score on five receptions to lead the team there.
The Cardinals are 6-1 ATS versus a team with a winning record and 8-20 ATS in their last 28 in November. Ball State is 1-5 ATS in their last six overall and 1-5 ATS in their last six conference games.
Meanwhile, the Rockets are 5-2 ATS in their last seven home games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven overall. Toledo is 2-5 ATS in their last seven on turf and 2-5 ATS in their last seven in November.
PICK: I’m sticking with Toledo here, but this one is shaping up to be one of the more competitive matchups of the weekend college football slate. The Rockets have managed at least 38 points in every game; trouble is they’ve also given up a combined 69 points in their last two outings. Ball State’s offense has been great so far this year as well, but defensively they’re also surrendering a ton of points. This one should be a high-flying shootout, but in the end I think the Rockets offense ekes out a cover.
