The Charlotte 49ers and the Marshall Thundering Herd meet in college football action from Joan C. Edwards Stadium on Friday night.
The Charlotte 49ers will try to finish strong after falling to 2-4 on the year after a 37-19 loss to Western Kentucky in their last game. Chris Reynolds has thrown for 1,100 yards, 6 touchdowns and 2 interceptions on 58.2% passing while Tre Harbison has a team-high 297 yards and Aaron McCallister isn’t far behind with 254 rushing yards this season with Harbison III having 4 touchdowns to McAllister’s 3. Victor Tucker and Micaleous Elder each have 200+ receiving yards for the Herd while Cameron Dollar, Taylor Thompson and Tyler Ringwood each have 100+ receiving yards for Marshall this season. On defense, Ben DeLuca has a team-high 41 total tackles including a team-high 27 solo tackles while Tyler Murray is right behind with 40 total tackles and a pair of interceptions.
The Marshall Thundering Herd will look to bounce back from their first loss of the season, falling to 7-1 on the year after a 20-0 loss to Rice last time out. Grant Wells has thrown for 1,839 yards, 16 touchdowns and 9 interceptions on 63.4% passing while Brenden Knox leads the Herd in rushing with 820 rushing yards and 9 scores this season. Xavier Gaines and Corey Gammage each have 300+ receiving yards for the Herd this season with Gaines posting a team-high 328 receiving yards while Gammage has 4 receiving touchdowns. Artie Henry, Willie Johnson and Broc Thompson each have 200+ receiving yards as well for Marshall this season. Tavante Beckett leads Marshall on defense with 77 total tackles including 29 solo tackles along with 2.5 sacks while Darius Hodge has a team-high 6 sacks. Koby Cumberlander also has 3 sacks for the Thundering Herd this season.
Charlotte is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and 4-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 Friday games. Marshall is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 Friday games and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a loss while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 games against a team with a losing road record.
This is a ton of points to be giving up with Marshall after failing to get off of the bus against Rice last time out. However, Marshall still sits in the driver’s seat for a spot in the C-USA title game but they need to win to keep pace and I don’t think the Herd will want to leave anything to chance. They’ll want to win and win convincingly, so I’ll lay the points with Marshall in this spot.
