The Incarnate Word Cardinals and the Arkansas State Red Wolves meet in college football action from Centennial Bank Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Incarnate Word Cardinals will take the field for the first and only time this season as all 13 FCS conferences decided to not participate in a fall season in the hopes for a full season in the spring. Jon Copeland returns as the Cardinals’ top quarterback after throwing for 3,341 yards, 22 touchdowns and 9 interceptions on 58.8% passing last season. The three-headed rushing monster for UIW is also back with Kevin Brown, Ameer King and Keyondrick Philio all returning with Brown logging 720 yards on the ground while King had 506 yards and Philio had 321 rushing yards with a team-high 9 rushing touchdowns last season. The bad news for the Cardinals is that two of their top receivers are gone, but CJ Hardy is back after finishing 2nd on the team with 411 receiving yards last year while seven different receivers had at least 300+ receiving yards for UIW last season.
The Arkansas State Red Wolves will look to finish the year on a high note after improving to 4-7 with a 48-15 win over Louisiana-Monroe last time out. Layne Hatcher has thrown for 2,058 yards, 19 touchdowns and 2 interceptions on 59.8% passing while Logan Bonner has thrown for 1,863 yards, 18 touchdowns and 6 interceptions on 59.5% passing. Jamal Jones leads A-State in rushing with 578 rushing yards with 3 rushing TDs and Lincoln Pare has 450 rushing yards as well. Jonathan Adams leads Arkansas State’s receiving group with 79 catches for 1,111 yards and 12 touchdowns while Dahu Green has 542 yards with 5 touchdowns and Brandon Bowling has 507 yards and 7 touchdowns as well. Corey Ruker and Jeff Foreman each have 400+ receiving yards as well for the Red Wolves this season. On defense, Justin Rice leads Arkansas State with 76 total tackles including 57 solo tackles and a team-high 7 sacks while TW Ayers has 4 sacks this season.
Arkansas State is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 non-conference games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games on turf while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 games following an ATS win.
I get that this is a lot of points to be giving up to an Arkansas State team that wasn’t much to write home about this season, especially on defense. However, Arkansas State was always going to be favored in this spot and now get to feast on and finish the year against an Incarnate Word team that’s yet to take the field at game speed this season. This just has blowout written all over it in my opinion, so I’ll lay the points with Arkansas State in this one.
