The the Big 12’s Oklahoma Sooners and the SEC’s Florida Gators meet Wednesday in the college football’s Cotton Bowl at AT&T Stadium in Arlington as college football bowl season continues.
The Florida Gators have lost back-to-back games but have a chance to win their third straight bowl contest. The Florida Gators have won three of their last four non-home games. Kyle Trask is completing 69.7 percent of his passes for 4,125 yards, 43 touchdowns and five interceptions. Trask has three or more touchdown passes in 11 of his last 13 games. Kadarius Toney and Kyle Pitts have combined for 1,854 receiving yards and 22 touchdowns while Trevon Grimes has 38 receptions. The Florida Gators ground game is averaging 120.4 yards per contest, and Dameon Pierce leads the way with 443 yards and four touchdowns. Defensively, Florida is allowing 28.6 points and 404.7 yards per game. Ventrell Miller leads the Florida Gators with 86 tackles, Zachary Carter has five sacks and Shawn Davis has two interceptions.
The Oklahoma Sooners are riding a seven-game winning streak and look for their first bowl win since the 2016 season. The Oklahoma Sooners have won four straight non-home games. Spencer Rattler is completing 68 percent of his passes for 2,784 yards, 25 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Rattler has two or more touchdown passes in eight of his last 10 games. Marvin Mims and Theo Wease have combined for 1,077 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns while Austin Stogner has 25 receptions. Defensively, Oklahoma is allowing 21.9 points and 333.6 yards per game. Brian Asamoah leads the Oklahoma Sooners with 59 tackles, Isaiah Thomas has eight sacks and Tre Norwood has four interceptions.
The Gators are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 bowl games and 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Sooners are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 vs. SEC and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The over is 9-4 in Gators last 13 games overall. The under is 5-2 in Sooners last 7 neutral site games.
The Florida Gators have a bad defense and no running game, and they’re coming off back-to-back losses. However, the Gators also have one of the best passing attacks in the country and just went toe to toe with Alabama while dropping 46 points on their head. The Oklahoma Sooners haven’t lost since October 3, they have a top-10 scoring offense in the country and are the third best team at stopping the run. There’s value with the Sooners and the free field goal in what’s likely going to be a shootout game, but I’ll still back Florida and one of the top quarterbacks in college football. You’re also giving Dan Mullen extra time to prepare and come up with a creative offensive game plan.
