The Eastern Illinois Panthers are coming off a 1-11 record that included a 1-6 record on the road. The Eastern Illinois Panthers averaged 14.8 points and 276.3 yards while allowing 30.3 points and 356.1 yards. Defensively, Dytarious Johnson returns after leading Eastern Illinois with 67 tackles, Jason Johnson had one sack and Raymond Crittenden had one interception. The Eastern Illinois Panthers weren’t good last season to say the least, but they return majority of last years production, which makes you think they’re due for a big improvement. Only time will tell.
The Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks finished 7-5 last year with a 5-0 record at home. The Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks averaged 25.5 points and 332 yards while allowing 24.9 points and 384 yards. Defensively, JaQuez Akins returns after 92 tackles last season, Austin Pickett had 4.5 sacks and D'Carrious Stephens had three interceptions. The Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks had a highly productive season last year and have to like their chances in the spring. Tennessee-Martin is loaded with returning production, especially on the offensive side of the ball.
The Eastern Illinois Panthers return a bunch of production, so there's hope for improvement, however, I'm not running to the window to back them until we see progress. The Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks showed flashes of greatness last season and return a ton of key players to where you can expect even more success. Tennessee-Martin has a chance to be really good offensively this season.
Thick line, but I'm backing UT Martin to get the job done.
