The Southern Illinois Salukisand North Dakota State Bison face off on Saturday in a Week 3 FCS College Football showdown at Saluki Stadium.
The North Dakota State Bison overall this season sit with a 2-0 record but in the spring season they have won only one game. During the fall season, North Dakota State faced off with Central Arkansas but that was with Trey Lance under center and he has gone off to train for the NFL so this team is a lot different now. In the first game of the spring season, North Dakota State faced off with Youngstown State, and the Bison were able to win 25-7. Even though they were able to win by 18 points, this was a game they struggled to move the ball in for most of the game, and they are going to need to have much better production from the offense in this game. Starting quarterback Zeb Noland only completed nine of his 18 passes for 74 yards. Kamal Johnson has been the best player for North Dakota State on the ground putting up 114 yards and a touchdown. The defense was impressive in game one and something they will lean on in this one.
On the other side of this matchup is the Southern Illinois Salukis who didn’t look good in their first game against the North Dakota Fighting Hawks. The first half, Southern Illinois was competitive, but in the second half, the defense really struggled and that led to a 44-21 blowout loss. Southern Illinois gave up 21 points in the 3rd quarter. Starting quarterback NIc Baker threw for 153 yards and two interceptions. Kare Lyles also got some playing time and he threw a touchdown. Romeir Elliott and Javon Williams Jr found the end zone on the ground. If Southern Illinois wants any chance to come away with a victory the defense is going to need to be better.
I think there was some nerves in the first game for North Dakota State but that won’t be the case again in this one. North Dakota State is going to run up the score against a terrible Southern Illinois defense and that will lead to the Bison coming away with a cover of the spread.
