The McNeese State Cowboys and Nicholls State Colonels face off on Saturday in a week 8 FCS college football showdown at Cowboy Stadium.
The Nicholls State Colonels have looked good so far this year and they currently sit with a 4-1 record overall. The only loss during that stretch of games was against Sam Houston State two games ago and that was a 71-17 defeat. In the last game, Nicholls State bounced back in a big way against Incarnate Word and they were able to win 75-45 Lindsey Scott Jr has been a star with his arm and his legs and it was no different in the last game. Scott threw for 264 yards and five touchdowns, and also added another 81 yards and a touchdown on the ground. John Carrington III has also been good this season and in the last game he rushed for 125 yards and two touchdowns.
On the other side of this matchup is the McNeese State Cowboys who have also played five games but they sit with a 2-3 record overall. McNeese State have lost three of their last four games with the one win coming in their last against Northwestern State. The defense was strong in that last game giving up only seven points and that led to the 14 point victory. McNeese is a run first team and two games ago against the Lamar Cardinals the best player was running back Carlos Williams who finished the game with 16 carries for 90 yards and two touchdowns.
Nicholls State is going to have no issue running up the score and that will be the difference in this game. Look for McNeese State’s defense to struggle and that will be the difference as Nicholls State will come away with a win and a cover of the spread.
