The Jacksonville State Gamecocks and Murray State Racers meet Sunday in week 9 FCS college football action at Roy Stewart Stadium.
The Jacksonville State Gamecocks look for another win to build on their 8-2 record. Zion Webb is completing 58.5 percent of his passes for 1,285 yards, 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Zerrick Cooper and Webb have combined for 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Dave Russell and Trae Barry have combined for 710 receiving yards and three touchdowns while Uriah West has 15 receptions. The Jacksonville State Gamecocks ground game is averaging 192.3 yards per contest, and Josh Samuel leads the way with 677 yards and six touchdowns. Defensively, Jacksonville State is allowing 18.1 points and 266.5 yards per game. Nicario Harper leads the Jacksonville State Gamecocks with 71 tackles, DJ Coleman has six sacks and Jacquez Payton has two interceptions.
The Murray State Racers look for a statement win to build on their 5-1 record. Preston Rice is completing 50.7 percent of his passes for 947 yards, seven touchdowns and four interceptions. LaMartez Brooks and Jacob Bell have combined for 545 receiving yards and two touchdowns while DeQuan Dallas has six receptions. The Murray State Racers ground game is averaging 160.8 yards per contest, and Damonta Witherspoon leads the way with 474 yards and five touchdowns. Defensively, Murray State is allowing 22.6 points and 336.7 yards per game. Alec Long leads the Murray State Racers with 54 tackles, Izaiah Reed has 2.5 sacks and Marcis Floyd has three interceptions.
The Jacksonville State Gamecocks have been one of the more impressive teams this season on the FCS ranks dating back to their fall game against Florida State. You should expect Jacksonville State to be a comfortable favorite based on its resume. However, the Murray State Racers are far from a pushover, and they have a win this season over a ranked team in Southeast Missouri. Murray State can run the football, has playmakers all over its defense and took Austin Peay down to the wire in its loss, the same team that beat Jacksonville State.
This should be a competitive contest. Give me the Racers and the points.
