Arkansas State vs Memphis 9/11/21 College Football Picks, Odds, Predictions

The Arkansas State Red Wolves meet the Memphis Tigers in week 2 college football action from Centennial Bank Stadium on Saturday night.

The Memphis Tigers will look to build off of a 42-17 win over Nicholls to start their season last time out. Seth Henigan threw for 265 yards and a score on 19 of 32 passing while Brandon Thomas rushed for a team-high 147 yards and a touchdown. Rodrigues Clark had 84 rushing yards with a score and Asa Martin had 65 rushing yards of his own and Marquavius Weaver chipped in a rushing TD. Jaxon Ivory led Memphis with 106 receiving yards while Gabriel Rogers had 59 receiving yards and Calvin Austin III added a team-high 6 catches for 47 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, JJ Russell and Quindell Johnson each had a team-high 7 total tackles and 5 solo tackles while Sylvonta Oliver had an interception for Memphis in the win.

The Arkansas State Red Wolves will look to add to their 40-21 win over Central Arkansas from their season opener. James Blackman threw for 169 yards on 16 of 26 passing while Layne Hatcher threw for 150 yards and 4 TDs on a perfect 12 of 12 passing. Alan Lamar led A-State’s rushing attack with 67 rushing yards and a TD on 18 carries while Marcel Murray had 63 rushing yards. Corey Rucker led Arkansas State in receiving with 9 catches for 138 yards and 3 touchdowns while Te’Vailance Hunt had 6 grabs for 96 yards and a score and Jeff Foreman added 5 catches for 55 yards in the win. Jarius Reimonenq and Denzel Blackwell each had a team-high 6 total tackles and 5 solo tackles while Kivon Bennett had a sack with 3 TFLs. Blackman, Samy Johnson and Elery Alexander each had an interception as well in the win for Arkansas State.

Memphis is 3-7 ATS in their last 10 week 2 matchups and 5-10 ATS in their last 15 games overall while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 road games. Arkansas State is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 September games and 10-5 ATS in their last 15 Saturday games while the under is 7-1 in their last 8 games against the AAC.

This will be a big step up for both teams here as Nicholls and Central Arkansas aren’t much competition. With that said, another thing these two teams have in common is that they can score points in bunches and defense isn’t necessarily the first priority on both teams’ checklists. I could easily see a game here where both teams find themselves in the 40s when all is said and done, so give me the over in this one.
