The FIU Panthers meet the Texas State Bobcats in week 2 college football action from Riccardo Silva Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Texas State Bobcats will look to bounce back from a 29-20 loss at the hands of the Baylor Bears in their season opener last time out. Brady McBride threw for 156 yards and a touchdown on 20 of 40 passing while Jahmyl Jeter rushed for 45 yards and a touchdown. Calvin Hill had 31 rushing yards while Marcell Barbee led the Bobcats with 4 catches for 56 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Troy Lefeged Jr. led the Bobcats with 10 total tackles including 5 solo tackles in the losing effort.
The FIU Panthers will try to build on their dominant 48-10 win over LIU last time out. Max Bortenschlager threw for 266 yards, 2 touchdowns and an interception on 14 of 17 passing while D’Vonte Price rushed for 165 yards and 3 touchdowns with just 5 carries. EJ Wilson Jr. had 43 rushing yards and Shaun Peterson Jr. had 36 rushing yards with a touchdown of his own. Bryce Singleton led the FIU receivers with 6 grabs for 146 yards and a touchdown while Tyrese Chambers had 3 grabs for 67 yards and a score as well. Defensively, Richard Dames led the Panthers with 8 total tackles including 6 solo tackles while Jason Mercier had FIU’s lone sack as a team in the win.
Texas State is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 September games while the over is 5-2 in their last 7 Saturday games. FIU is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games against the Sun Belt conference.
This is a bit of an interesting game to call, but I think it says something that this line is where it is. If oddsmakers were really impressed with FIU and the offense after the performance against Long Island, this line would be a lot bigger. However, Texas State held their own against a decent Baylor team and Baylor defense in their loss, and I think the Bobcats give FIU all they can handle before walking out with a win. Give me the Bobcats in this one.
