The Indiana Hoosiers meet the Idaho Vandals and the Saturday in college football action from the Rock. Idaho is coming off an opener game versus Simon Frasier. In that one, the Vandals posted a huge blowout victory. As for the Hoosiers, they played Iowa in their first game. Indiana fell by 28 points in that matchup. Idaho got a half-dozen games in this past spring, finishing 2-4 overall. That result left the Vandals in fifth place in the Big Sky Conference. Idaho started out the year at 2-1 but lost their last three straight games.
In the first matchup versus Simon Frasier, Idaho didn’t have much trouble during a rousing 68-0 victory. Idaho’s CJ Jordan put up 161 yards with two passing scores, and Roshaun Johnson rushed for 87 yards and three scores on 10 carries.
Over on the Indiana side, they posted a 6-2 record last season. The Hoosiers landed in second place in the East Division of the Big Ten Conference, just behind Ohio State. Indiana got an invite to the Outback Bowl, where they lost to Ole Miss 26-20.
In Indiana’s first matchup of the season versus Iowa, the Hoosiers couldn’t get much going on offense during a 34-6 loss. Indiana was down 31-3 at the break in the defeat. Quarterback Michael Penix put up 156 yards and three interceptions.
PICK: I’m going to take Idaho. The Vandals jumped out to a 40-0 halftime lead against an overmatched opponent in their opener, and didn’t have a lot of trouble moving the ball. The offense was pretty well-balanced and lots of players got in on the action.
As for Indiana, they had just 77 rush yards and 156 through the air versus Iowa, resulting in 11 first downs and three interceptions. The Hoosiers will certainly match up better in this one, but I think Idaho is still good enough to get in there on a cover.
