The Iowa State Cyclones meet the Iowa Hawkeyes in a rivalry matchup in week 2 college football action from Jack Trice Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Iowa Hawkeyes will be out to build on a 34-6 beatdown of Indiana to open their season in their last game. Spencer Petras threw for 145 yards on 13 of 27 passing while also rushing for a score as well. Tyler Goodson led the Hawkeyes with 99 rushing yards and a touchdown while Ivory Kelly-Martin had 44 rushing yards. Sam LaPorta had a team-high 5 catches for 83 yards to lead Iowa’s receiving group while no other Hawkeye had more than 21 yards or two receptions in the win. Defensively, Seth Benson had a team-high 10 total tackles including 6 solo tackles while Lukas Van Ness had a sack, but it was the Riley Moss show as Moss had a pair of interceptions that he returned for touchdowns.

The Iowa State Cyclones will be out to build off of a narrow 16-10 win over Northern Iowa in their season opening game. Brock Purdy threw for 199 yards on an efficient 21 of 26 passing while also rushing for 58 yards on 9 carries. Breece Hall had 23 carries for 69 yards and a score while Xavier Hutchinson had 7 catches for 88 yards. Tarique Milton and Breece Hall each had 30+ receiving yards for the Cyclones as well in the victory. Jake Hummel and Mike Rose each had a team-high 11 total tackles including Hummel’s team-high 9 solo tackles while O’Rien Vance & Will McDonald IV each had a sack. Datrone Young and Isheem Young each added an interception as well in the winning effort.

The Hawkeyes are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 week 2 matchups while the under is 12-4 in their last 16 games played in September. The Cyclones are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games as a favorite and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games played in September while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games overall. The under is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.

I get the case that could be made either way here, as this is a rivalry game and you can throw trends and records out the window in most cases. However, I’m leaning towards the under here as these two usually give us a slugfest and a game that is the epitome of the words rivalry game. I think you’re going to see 60 minutes of smash mouth football, so give me the under.
