Maryland vs Howard 9/11/21 College Football Picks, Odds, Predictions

The Maryland Terrapins meet the Howard Bisons Saturday in college football action from Byrd Stadium. Howard is coming off a season opener versus Richmond. In that one, Howard took a big loss. As for the Terrapins, they played West Virginia in their first game. Maryland powered out a six-point victory in that game. Howard only got to play two games last year against Delaware State amid a handful of cancellations. The Bisons didn’t have any luck though, finishing 0-2. Howard fell 17-10 in the first game, then lost again 37-28 on April 3 to wrap up the year. 

In their first game against Richmond, the Bisons scored in just one quarter (and didn’t score after halftime) in a 38-14 defeat. QB Quinton Williams put up 226 yards with a TD, and Jarrett Hunter had 93 yards on 12 carries to lead the rushers.

Over on the Terrapins’ side, they had a five-game schedule last year (and also quite a few cancellations). Maryland finished the season at 2-3 overall, landing them in fourth place in the East Division of the Big Ten Conference. 

Maryland took on West Virginia in their first action of the 2021 campaign. The Terrapins were down 21-20 heading into the fourth quarter but still pulled out a 30-24 win. QB Taulia Tagovailoa posted 332 yards with three touchdowns, and Tayon Fleet-Davis had 123 rush yards. 

PICK: I’m going with Maryland, but probably staying away due to that big number. The Terrapins played a close game pretty much the whole time versus West Virginia in their opener, but held the Mountaineers to 48 rush yards and 5.3 yards per play. The Terrapins had 496 total yards themselves, running 80 plays and holding the ball for 34:03. 

As for Howard, they had a couple of bright spots here and there, but still gave up a ton of production in their opener. I don’t think the Bisons will be able to stop Maryland in this week two matchup.
