The Nevada Wolf Pack meet the Idaho State Bengals Saturday in week 2 college football action from Mackay Stadium. Idaho State played North Dakota in their first game of the year. In that one, the Bengals fell by 21 points. As for Nevada, they’re coming off an opener versus California. The Wolf Pack bagged a five-point win in that game. Idaho State got six games in this past spring, finishing at 2-4 overall. That result left the Bengals in sixth place in the conference standings. Idaho State’s only wins came courtesy of Southern Utah 26-24 and Idaho 24-22. The Bengals would fall to Weber State to finish the season.

In the opener versus North Dakota, Idaho State couldn’t get much going on offense in a 35-14 defeat. QB Tyler Vander Waal put up 229 lads with one TD and three picks on 19-of-43 passing. Xavier Guillroy caught five balls for 79 yards to lead the receivers.

Over on the Nevada side, they put up a 7-2 record overall last year with a 6-2 Mountain West Conference mark. The Wolf Pack landed in third place in the conference standings and got an invite to the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. Nevada won that game over Tulane 38-27.

In the first game of the 2021 season versus California, the Wolf Pack were down 14-13 heading into the break but ultimately pulled off a 22-17 win. Carson Strong threw for 312 yards, two touchdowns and one pick, and Tory Horton had three grabs for 94 yards.

PICK: I’m going with Nevada here. The Wolf Pack had a solid day passing (312 yards) in their opener, but couldn’t really get the run game going (61 yards). Still, with just one turnover and four penalties on the game, Nevada took care of the ball well and pulled off a nice win.

As for Idaho State, they gave up quite a few yards on the ground (along with three scores) and couldn’t keep up with the Hawks after halftime in their opener. Unless the Bengals play a perfect game I don’t think they’ll be able to keep up in this week two matchup.
