Old Dominion vs Hampton 9/11/21 College Football Picks, Odds, Predictions

The Old Dominion Monarchs meet the Hampton Pirates and the Saturday in college football action from Foreman Field. Hampton played Virginia Union in their first game of the year. In that one, the Pirates posted a 14-point win. As for Old Dominion, they played Wake Forest in their opener. The Monarchs fell in a blowout to kick off the year at 0-1. Hampton skipped out on the 2020 football season, so they had a long break in between on-field activity. In the 2019 campaign, the Pirates finished 5-7 overall and just 1-5 in the Big South. That result left Hampton just three spots out of the basement in the rankings. 

In their first game versus Virginia Union, Hampton was behind 14-13 at the break but then posted 21 points in the fourth quarter on the way to a 42-28 win. Quarterback Khalid Morris put up 271 yards with two scores and two picks on 15-of-28 passing.

Over on the Old Dominion side, they opted out of the 2020 campaign as well. In 2019, the Monarchs didn’t do very well, posting a 1-11 overall record with a winless 0-8 mark in Conference USA play. 

In their opening game against Wake Forest, the Monarchs fell in a blowout 42-10. Old Dominion was down 28-3 at the break and things didn’t get much better from there. QB Hayden Wolff put up 88 yards and a TD on 11-of-17 passing, and Elijah Davis rushed for 69 yards. 

PICK: I’m going to try Old Dominion. It’s tough to get a gauge on how good the Monarchs are this year following an opener game versus a better opponent, but there are some positives for ODU after week one. The Monarchs had a pretty balanced attack and ran plenty of plays, they just weren’t able to sustain drives or hold the Deacons back on defense. 

As for Hampton, it took them a while to pull away in their first game but they got the job done. This game should be a better gauge of where each team stands, and I think ODU will bag the cover.
