The Washington Huskies meet the Arkansas State Red Wolves Saturday in week 3 college football action from Husky Stadium. Arkansas State played Memphis in their last outing. In that matchup the Red Wolves took a difficult five-point loss. As for Washington, they’re coming off a game versus Michigan. The Huskies fell by 21 points in that one. Arkansas State overcame a slow start (a 7-6 deficit at the half) to eventually blow past Central Arkansas 40-21 in their opening game. QB Layne Hatcher threw a perfect 12-of-12 passing for 150 yards and four touchdowns. Corey Rucker caught three of those to finish with 138 yards.

In game two versus Memphis, the Red Wolves scored 20 points in the fourth quarter but couldn’t come back in a 55-50 defeat. QB James Blackman managed 306 yards and four touchdowns, and Jeff Foreman had 198 yards and a score from eight catches.

Over on the Washington side, their opener was against Montana. The Huskies had a lead for three quarters but ultimately fell 13-7. Quarterback Dylan Morris had 226 yards, three picks and a rush score, while Cade Otton led the receivers on 82 yards from eight grabs.

The Huskies played Michigan in game two. Washington couldn’t score during the first half in that one, resulting in a 31-10 defeat. Morris put up 293 yards with one TD there, while Tyrell Bynum had 115 yards and a TD from five catches.

The Red Wolves are 5-0 ATS in their last five in September and 6-0 ATS in their last six non-conference games. AR State is 1-4 ATS versus a team with a losing record.

Meanwhile, the Huskies are 1-4 ATS in their last five home games and 0-4 ATS in their last four overall. Washington is 0-4 ATS in the last four on turf as well.

PICK: I’m going with Arkansas State.  The Red Wolves’ offensive numbers in week two were pretty crazy, with 680 total yards including 582 of those through the air. AR State secured 35 first downs and ran a whopping 99 total plays.

As for Washington, they couldn’t stop the run versus Michigan, giving up 343 yards on the ground versus just 50 of their own. The Huskies held the Wolverines to just 44 pass yards but it wasn’t enough to slow them down. Washington should be able to stay close in this one but ultimately I think this is the Red Wolves’ game to cover.
