The Charlotte 49ers meet the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders Friday Night in college football action from Jerry Richards Stadium. The Raiders are coming off a matchup versus UTSA this past weekend. Middle Tennessee fell by 14 points. As for Charlotte, they played Georgia State in their last outing. In that one, the 49ers lost by 11 points. Middle Tennessee posted a nice opener win over Monmouth on September 4, cruising to a 50-15 blowout win. Week two against Virginia Tech was a different story, however. The Blue Raiders gave up 14 points in the third quarter on the way to a 35-14 defeat.

In the Saturday matchup versus UTSA, Middle Tennessee couldn’t score until the fourth quarter in a 27-13 loss. Quarterback Chase Cunningham put up 150 yards and two scores off 9-of-18 passing, and Izaiah Gathings led the rush with 65 yards from three catches.

Over on the Charlotte side, they pulled off an impressive victory over Duke in their first game, eking out an exciting 31-28 win. The 49ers were able to keep it going in week two versus Gardner-Webb. Charlotte put up 28 first-half points and cruised to a 38-10 win.

In week three versus Georgia State, Charlotte had a 7-7 tie at the break but couldn’t keep the pace in a 20-9 defeat. QB Chris Reynolds put up 158 yards and a score, while Calvin Camp rushed for 53 yards on 14 carries. Grant DuBose led the receivers with 45 yards off five catches.

The Raiders are 6-2 ATS in the last eight conference games and 2-7 ATS in their last nine in September. Middle Tennessee is also 4-1 ATS in their last five after a loss.

Meanwhile, the 49ers are 5-2 ATS in their last seven in September and 2-5 ATS in their last seven after an ATS loss. The under is 5-0 in their last five Friday games as well.

PICK: I’m going to try Charlotte here, but probably staying away. The 49ers couldn’t get much offense going in their last outing, totaling just 276 total yards and 4.1 yards per play on average. The good news is that Charlotte took care of the ball fairly well and had a solid 33:00 in time of possession.

As for Middle Tennessee, they had just 199 total yards in their last game, with a paltry eight coming on the ground. The Raiders couldn’t get much going despite forcing three turnovers on defense; they just couldn’t get off the field for most of the game. This should be a decent matchup but I still like the Niners on the cover.
