The Central Michigan Chippewas meet the FIU Panthers Saturday in Week 4 college football action from Kelly/Shorts Stadium. FIU is coming off a game versus Texas Tech in week three. The Panthers fell in a blowout during that game. As for Central Michigan, they played LSU in their last outing. In that one, the Chippewas lost by 28 points. FIU didn’t have any problems versus LIU in their opener game this year, notching 28 points in the first half on the way to a 48-10 win. Week two was a different story; the Panthers couldn’t score after the third quarter in a tough 23-17 overtime loss to Texas State.

In the week three game versus Texas Tech, FIU coughed up 28 points in the second quarter during a 54-21 blowout defeat. Quarterback Max Bortenschlager had 185 yards with two touchdowns and a pick, while D’Vonte Price rushed for 51 yards and a TD on 15 carries.

Over on the Central Michigan side, they couldn’t handle Missouri in their opener. The Chippewas fell in a 34-24 loss but stayed competitive for most of the game. Week two against Robert Morris was a nice bounce-back for the Chippewas; they won that one 45-0.

Central Michigan played LSU this past weekend. In that game the Chippewas fell behind 35-7 by halftime and limped to a 49-21 result. Jacob Simon threw for 156 yards with a score and an interception. JaCorey Sullivan led the receivers on 114 yards and a TD off five grabs.

The Panthers are 2-6 ATS in their last eight in September and 2-7 ATS in their last nine road games. FIU is also 1-4-1 ATS in their last six versus the MAC.

Meanwhile, the Chippewas are 4-0 ATS versus a team with a losing record and 5-1 ATS in their last six after an ATS loss. Central Michigan is 5-1 ATS in their last six after a straight-up loss as well.

PICK: I’m going to try Central Michigan, but probably staying away from this one. The Chippewas weren’t realistically going to stop LSU; they gave up 484 total yards, including 400 through the air and 7.7 yards per play. The good news is that Central Michigan was 9-of-19 on third downs and ran 70 total plays.

As for the Panthers, they posted just 246 total yards against a determined Texas Tech team, giving up 584 yards on the other side. FIU should bounce back statistically in this one, but I think Central Michigan has the inside track on a cover.
