The New Mexico Lobos meet the Air Force Falcons Saturday in Week 5 Mountain West college football action from University Stadium. Air Force played Florida Atlantic in their last outing. The Falcons ended up powering out a 24-point win there. As for New Mexico, they’re coming off a game versus UTEP. In that one the Lobos lost by seven. Air Force kicked off their season with a matchup versus Lafayette, winning handily 35-14. The Falcons posted a solid win over Navy 23-3 on September 11, but then took a rough loss to Utah State in week three with a disappointing 49-45 result.

In game four versus Florida Atlantic, Air Force jumped out to a 24-7 halftime lead and cruised to a 31-7 win. QB Haaziq Daniels rushed for 164 yards and two scores, while Micah Davis and Brad Roberts helped out with a combined 170 yards and two TDs off 25 carries.

Over on the Lobos’ side, their first game against Houston Baptist went well, resulting in a 27-17 win. New Mexico kept it going with a 34-25 win over New Mexico State in week two, but couldn’t do much against Texas A&M in their next game during a 34-0 blowout loss.

The Lobos played UTEP last Saturday. In that one New Mexico gave up 17 unanswered points in the second half during a 20-13 loss. QB Terry Wilson had 160 yards and a pick on 16-of-38 passing. Aaron Dumas led the rush with 28 yards on eight carries.

The Falcons are 4-1 ATS in their last five on grass and 2-5 ATS in their last seven after an ATS win. Air Force is also 7-3 ATS in their last 10 conference games.

Meanwhile, the Lobos are 6-13 ATS versus a team with a winning record and 8-19 ATS in their last 27 conference games. New Mexico is 8-20 ATS in their last 28 after a straight-up loss as well.

PICK: I’m going to stick with Air Force. We know what the Falcons are going to do: run, run and run some more. It worked out last weekend with 516 total yards, 6.6 yards per play and a 4-of-6 mark on fourth down tries. When Air Force wins the time of possession battle they’re a dangerous team.

As for New Mexico, they gave up 293 yards through the air but controlled the UTEP rush attack with just 51 yards last weekend. It’s going to be interesting to see what the Lobos can do against the Air Force runners but I think the Falcons can stay in control if they’re on point.
