The UMass Minutemen meet the Toledo Rockets Saturday in week 5 college football action at Warren McGuirk Alumni Stadium. The Toledo Rockets look for a win to get a game above a .500 record. The Umass Minutemen hope to avoid their first 0-5 start since the 2017 CFB season.

The Toledo Rockets have won three of their last four road games. Carter Bradley is completing 61.7 percent of his passes for 802 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Devin Maddox and Bryce Mitchell have combined for 475 receiving yards and two touchdowns while Isaiah Winstead has 10 receptions. The Toledo Rockets ground game is averaging 155.5 yards per contest, and Bryant Koback leads the way with 282 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, Toledo is allowing 19 points and 338.5 yards per game. Dyontae Johnson leads the Toledo Rockets with 23 tackles, Terrance Taylor has three sacks and Samuel Womack has one interception.

The Umass Minutemen haven’t won a game since September of 2019. Brady Olson is completing 55.6 percent of his passes for 588 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions. Rico Arnold and Melvin Hill have combined for 282 receiving yards and two touchdowns while Tray Pettway has seven receptions. The Umass Minutemen ground game is averaging 101 yards per contest, and Ellis Merriweather leads the way with 231 yards on 43 carries. Defensively, Umass is allowing 47.8 points and 538.3 yards per game. Gerrell Johnson leads the Umass Minutemen with 29 tackles, Xavier Gonsalves has one sack and Noah Boykin has four pass deflections.

The Rockets are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall. The Minutemen are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 home games and 5-11 ATS in their last 16 games overall. The over is 4-1 in Rockets last 5 road games. The over is 36-17 in Minutemen last 53 games overall.

I’m not running to the window to back either of these teams and UMass is god awful on both sides of the ball. However, Toledo has major issues offensively is actually ranked 80th in total offense. Toledo hasn’t looked good in three games against FBS competition and has failed to cover each of its last four games as a double-digit favorite. I’m not betting this game, but I’m also not betting Toledo if forced to pick. Give me UMass. Yuck.
