The Iowa Hawkeyes and Penn State Nittany Lions do battle Saturday in a week 6 Big Ten college football game from Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City, Iowa. Penn State is coming off a matchup versus Indiana. In that game the Nittany Lions bagged a shutout victory. As for Iowa, they played Maryland in their last outing. The Hawkeyes ended up with a blowout win there. Penn State had a nail-biter versus Wisconsin to start out their 2021 campaign, ultimately taking a 16-10 victory. The Nittany Lions kept it going with a 44-13 win over Ball State and an impressive 28-20 win over Auburn before beating Villanova in week four 38-17.

Last Saturday versus Indiana, Penn State scored in every quarter on the way to a 24-0 win. QB Sean Cliffort put up 178 yards with three scores, and Jahan Dotson led the receivers with 84 yards and two TDs from eight receptions. Keyvone Lee added 74 yards rushing as well.

Over on the Hawkeyes’ side, they didn’t have any trouble versus Indiana in their opener game this year, cruising to a 34-6 win. Iowa then topped Iowa State 27-17 and Kent State 30-7. The Hawkeyes won in week four as well, taking out Colorado Stat 24-14.

Last Friday in the Maryland game, Iowa didn’t have too much trouble. The Hawkeyes jumped out to a 34-7 halftime lead and cruised from there in a 51-14 result. QB Spencer Petras logged 259 yards with three scores, and Tyler Goodson caught two balls for 85 yards and a TD.

The Lions are 8-1 ATS in their last nine overall and 5-1 ATS in their last six after an ATS win. Penn State is also 5-2 ATS in their last seven on turf.

Meanwhile, the Hawkeyes are 4-0 ATS in their last four conference games and 6-1 ATS in their last seven overall. Iowa is 5-1 ATS in their last six on turf as well.

PICK: I’m going to stick with Iowa. This should be a pretty fun matchup regardless, though. The Hawkeyes are coming off a dominant performance versus Maryland, bagging 428 total yards, 24 first downs and 80 total plays. Iowa was a little spotty on third downs and also collected nine penalties, however.

As for Penn State, they were well-balanced and methodical in their win over Indiana, keeping the Hoosiers at bay with 408 yards of total offense. The Nittany Lions will provide a nice challenge for Iowa and I like this one to be close most of the way.
