The Louisville Cardinals meet the Boston College Eagles Saturday in ACC week 8 college football action from Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium. Boston College is coming off a matchup last weekend versus NC State. The Eagles ended up losing in a blowout. As for Louisville, they had a bye last week. The Cardinals last played in a one-point loss to Virginia. Check back all season long for free college football picks at Sports Chat Place.

Boston College started out the 2021 campaign on a four-game winning streak. The victories came 51-0 over Colgate, 45-28 over UMass, 28-3 over Temple and 41-34 (OT) over Missouri. The Eagles suffered their first loss on October 2 versus Clemson 19-13.

Last weekend versus NC State, Boston College was down 10-7 at the break but couldn’t score after that in a 33-7 defeat. QB Dennis Grosel finished on 194 yards with a TD and a pick, and Pat Garwo led the rush with 50 yards from 11 carries. Jaelen Gill managed five catches for 71 yards to lead the team in receiving.

Over on the Louisville side, they got a tough draw in their opener and lost 43-24 to Mississippi. The Cardinals won their next three versus Eastern Kentucky, UCF and Florida State, but then lost a pair in rough fashion to Wake Forest 37-34 and Virginia 34-33.

In the Virginia game, the Cardinals coughed up 21 points in the fourth quarter on the way to the defeat. QB Malik Cunningham put up 270 yards with a TD on 17-of-25 passing, and Hassan Hall had 162 yards and a score on 14 carries.

The Eagles are 5-1 ATS in their last six after an ATS loss and 9-3 ATS in their last 12 after a straight-up loss. Boston College is also 19-7 ATS in their last 26 games in October.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals are 8-2-1 ATS in their last 11 after an ATS loss and 7-17 ATS in their last 24 in October. Louisville is also 1-5 ATS in their last six after a bye week.

PICK: I’m going to try Louisville here. The Cardinals have been scoring well overall this season, posting 24 or more points in every game—and 30 or more in each of their last five. The trouble has been on the other side of the ball; Louisville has given up 34 or more points in three of their last four, going 2-2 in that stretch.

As for Boston College, they couldn’t do much after halftime against a pretty good NC State team. The Eagles ultimately collected just 291 total yards with 4.2 yards per play and 17 first downs, which wasn’t enough to keep up. I like Boston College to stay competitive in this one initially as well during what turns into a Louisville cover.
