The Houston Cougars and SMU Mustangs meet in week 9 AAC college football action from TDECU Stadium in Houston on Saturday night.

The SMU Mustangs will be out to build on their 55-26 win over Tulane in their last game. Tanner Mordecai has thrown for 2,320 yards, 29 touchdowns and 7 interceptions on 71.1% passing while Tre Siggers and Ulysses Bentley IV each have 400+ rushing yards, combining for 878 rushing yards and 6 touchdowns. Danny Gray leads SMU in receiving with 38 grabs for 609 yards with 7 touchdowns while Rashee Rice and Reggie Roberson Jr. each have 400+ receiving yards with a combined 11 touchdowns. Delano Robinson leads the Mustangs defense with 43 total tackles while Gary Wiley has a team-high 4 sacks and Isaiah Nwokobia has a pair of interceptions this season.

The Houston Cougars will look to build on their 31-24 overtime win over East Carolina last time out. Clayton Tune has thrown for 1,427 yards, 12 touchdowns and 6 interceptions on 69.1% passing while Alton McCaskill leads the Cougars in rushing with 463 rushing yards and 9 touchdowns. Ta’Zhawn Henry also has 181 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns. Nathaniel Dell has a team-high 510 receiving yards and 39 catches with 4 touchdowns while Christian Trahan has 261 receiving yards and another four Cougars have 100+ receiving yards this season. On defense, Donavan Mutin leads the Cougars with 44 total tackles while Logan Hall and David Anenih each have a team-high 4 sacks. Derek Parish and Latrell Bankston each have 3.5 sacks as well.

SMU is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record. Houston is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 conference games.

This is going to be a fame you’ll want to have your popcorn at the ready for as it’s going to be arguably the best of the day in my opinion as SMU has had no problem slinging it all over the field while Houston has undergone a resurgence and is looking as good as ever. With that said, I’m siding with the over. As good as Houston’s defense has been, it hasn’t faced anything like what SMU brings to the table and the Mustangs will surely give up their fair share as well in this track meet.
