The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns meet the Texas State Bobcats Saturday in week 9 Sun Belt college football action from Cajun Field. Texas State just finished up a game versus Georgia State. The Bobcats ended up losing by 12 there. As for the Cajuns, they played Arkansas State last Thursday. In that one Louisiana eked out a thrilling one-point victory. Texas State fell to Baylor 29-20 in their opener, but then beat FIU in overtime the next week. After losses to Incarnate Word and Eastern Michigan, the Bobcats posted an overtime win over South Alabama before falling to Troy 31-28.

Last weekend versus Georgia State, the Bobcats gave up a touchdown in every quarter during a 28-16 loss. QB Brady McBride finished on 255 yards with one interception, and also scored a rush TD. Ashtyn Hawkins led the receivers with six grabs for 108 yards.

Over on the Louisiana side, they lost to Texas 38-18 in their first game but then hit a winning streak. The Cajuns would go on to take out Nicholls State 27-24, Ohio 49-14, GA Southern 28-20, South Alabama 20-18 and App State 41-13.

In Thursday’s game versus Arkansas State, the Cajuns gave up 17 points in the third quarter but hung on for a 28-27 victory. QB Levi Lewis put up 122 yards with an interception on 11-of-20 passing. Chris Smith (238 yards; two TDs) and Montrell Johnson (150 yards; two TDs) did most of the offensive work.

The Bobcats are 5-2 ATS versus a team with a winning record and 4-9-1 ATS in their last 14 after an ATS loss. Texas State is also 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games.

Meanwhile, the Cajuns are 3-7 ATS versus a team with a losing record and 4-10 ATS in their last 14 conference games. Louisiana is also 2-6 ATS in their last eight overall.

PICK: I’m probably going to take Louisiana, but staying away. The Cajuns are coming out of a pretty sloppy performance against Arkansas State (a team they should have beaten handily), but they were saved by 424 rushing yards and a 7.5 yards-per-play average. Louisiana gave up 413 yards and 22 first downs on the other side while posting seven team penalties and two turnovers.

As for Texas State, they fizzled during the second half in their last outing, producing just three points in the final two quarters. The Bobcats averaged just 4.4 yards per play, committed seven penalties and lost a pair of turnovers. If Texas State can bounce back here this game could get interesting but I still like the Cajuns better on a cover.
