Troy vs South Alabama 11/6/21 College Football Picks, Odds, Predictions

The Troy Trojans take on the South Alabama Jaguars Saturday in week 10 Sun Belt college football action from Troy University Veterans Memorial Stadium. South Alabama is coming off a matchup versus Arkansas State. The Jaguars would cruise to a big win there. As for the Trojans, they played Coastal Carolina last Thursday. South Alabama started out the year with wins over Southern Miss, Bowling Green and Alcorn State before a pair of losses to Louisiana and Texas State. The Jaguars picked up a win over Georgia Southern, but then lost to LA-Monroe 41-31 in the next game. 

In the Arkansas State matchup, the Jaguars scored 28 points in the first half on the way to a 31-13 win. QB Jake Bentley put up 251 yards with four touchdowns. Terrion Avery had 113 yards on 22 carries, and Jalen Tolbert logged 94 yards and two scores from eight catches. 

Over on the Troy side, they went 2-3 over their first five games, falling to Liberty, LA-Monroe and South Carolina while otherwise beating Southern U and Southern Miss. The Trojans managed wins in their next pair however, taking out GA Southern and Texas State. 

Back on Thursday versus Coastal Carolina, Troy scored in every quarter—but also allowed points in every quarter—on the way to a 35-28 loss. QB Gunnar Watson had 225 yards with three scores, and Kimandi Vidal led the rush with 142 yards and a TD on 22 carries. 

The Jags are 11-23-1 ATS in their last 35 in November and 7-23 ATS in their last 30 after a straight-up win. South Alabama is also 7-24 ATS in their last 31 after an ATS win. 

Meanwhile, the Trojans are 2-5 ATS in their last seven at home and 2-6 ATS versus a team with a winning record. Troy is 1-4 ATS in their last five overall as well. 

PICK: I’m going to try Troy here. The Trojans matched up well with a good Coastal Carolina team in their last outing, and though the team allowed a good chunk of yardage (510 total) Troy was able to keep things close for most of the game. The Trojans’ 389 yards of offense would have been much better if the defense had been able to get off the field more often. 

As for South Alabama, they put up an impressive effort against a not-so-good Red Wolves team, holding them to 224 total yards, 14 first downs and four turnovers. Troy won’t be quite such a pushover however, so I like this one to be competitive most of the way. Should be a fun game to watch.
