The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs meet the Charlotte 49ers on Saturday in week 11 Conference USA college football action from Joe Aillet Stadium. Charlotte just finished up a game versus Rice. The 49ers ended up eking out a seven-point win in OT. As for the Bulldogs, they played UAB in their last game. In that one, Louisiana Tech lost by 14 points. Charlotte put up a solid 3-1 record over their first four games, taking out Duke, Gardner-Webb and Middle Tennessee around a loss to Georgia State. The 49ers hit the skids at 1-3 in their next quartet, beating FIU and falling otherwise to Illinois, Florida Atlantic and Western Kentucky.

In the matchup versus Rice, Charlotte was outscored 17-10 in the second half but ultimately posted a game-winning touchdown in overtime for a 31-24 victory. QB Chris Reynolds finished on 292 yards and three scores, while Elijah Spencer caught six balls for 77 yards and two TDs.

Over on the LA Tech side, they were 2-2 over their first four with wins over Southeastern LA and North Texas alongside losses to MS State and SMU. The Bulldogs lost their next four appearances to NC State, UTEP, UTSA and Old Dominion.

Back on Saturday versus UAB, the Bulldogs managed 17 fourth-quarter points (and gave up 21) during a 52-38 defeat. QB JD Head finished on 196 yards and two scores, while Marcus Williams had 81 yards and a TD rushing. Smoke Harris topped the receivers with 92 yards and two TDs.

The 49ers are 5-1 ATS in their last six in November and 3-1-1 ATS versus a team with a losing record. Charlotte is also 1-3-1 ATS in the last five road games.

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs are 2-5 ATS in their last seven at home and 3-8-1 ATS versus a team with a winning record. LA Tech is 0-3-1 ATS in their last four overall as well.

PICK: I’m going to take a stab on LA Tech. The Bulldogs coughed up 477 yards and 8.5 yards per play to UAB in their last game, but really should have been closer on the scoreboard considering the Blazers committed 12 penalties and a pair of turnovers. The Bulldogs managed 346 total yards and 23 first downs themselves in a pretty decent overall offensive effort.

As for Charlotte, they faltered a bit in the second half against Rice, ultimately allowing 468 total yards with 215 on the ground. The 49ers get some credit for pulling out the OT win, but overall the team didn’t play all that well.
