The Pittsburgh Panthers meet the Virginia Cavaliers on Saturday in week 12 ACC college football action from Heinz Field. Virginia is fresh off a matchup versus Notre Dame this past weekend. The Cavaliers ended up losing in a blowout. As for the Panthers, they played last Thursday. In that one, Pittsburgh managed an overtime victory versus North Carolina. Virginia went 2-2 over their first four games, losing to North Carolina and Wake Forest. A four-game win over Miami-FL, Louisville, Duke and Georgia Tech followed, then the Cavaliers took a 66-49 loss to BYU to close out October.

In the matchup versus Notre Dame, Virginia fell behind 21-0 at the half and couldn’t get closer in a 28-3 defeat. QB Jay Woolfolk put up 196 yards and two picks, while Keytaon Thompson topped the receivers on 110 yards from nine grabs.

Over on the Pittsburgh side, they took a loss to Western Michigan on September 18 but otherwise beat UMass, Tennessee, New Hampshire, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and Clemson in their first seven. The Panthers would then lose to Miami-FL before beating Duke and UNC.

Pittsburgh gave up 16 unanswered points in the second half of the Tar Heels game and needed overtime to bang out a 30-23 victory. QB Kenny Pickett put up 346 yards with three scores and a pick, while Jordan Addison led the receivers on 84 yards from six grabs.

The Cavs are 4-0 ATS in the last four conference games and 4-1 ATS in their last five in November. Virginia is 11-5 ATS in their last 16 overall.

Meanwhile, the Panthers are 5-0 ATS versus a team with a winning record and 6-1 ATS in their last seven overall. Pitt is 4-1 ATS in their last five after an ATS win.

PICK: I’m going to try Pittsburgh. The Panthers had quite the tepid second half versus North Carolina in their last appearance, but overall posted 441 total yards with 346 passing yards and 5.8 yards per play. Pittsburgh notched 25 first downs and went 9-of-17 on third-down tries.

As for Virginia, there wasn’t much chance they were going to beat Notre Dame but the team didn’t get anywhere close. The Cavs finished with 278 total yards, 4.3 yards per play and 17 first downs against a tough opponent. They’ll match up better here but I still like Pitt on the cover.
