The Rice Owls meet the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs on Saturday in week 13 Conference USA college football action from Rice Stadium. Louisiana Tech is fresh off a game versus Southern Miss. The Bulldogs ended up losing that one by 16 points. As for Rice, they played UTEP in their last outing. In that one the Owls lost by 10 points. Louisiana Tech went 2-2 over their first four games this year with wins over SE Louisiana and North Texas. The Bulldogs then hit a five-game losing skid against NC State, UTEP, UTSA, Old Dominion and UAB before a 10-point win over Charlotte.

In the Southern Miss game, the Bulldogs were down 21-9 at the break and didn’t get any closer in a 35-19 loss. QB Aaron Allen put up 100 yards with two picks, and Marcus Williams rushed for 76 yards on 17 carries.

Over on the Rice side, they lost their first three games of the year before hitting a pair of wins over Texas Southern and Southern Miss. The Owls went just 1-4 in the next five, losing to UTSA, North Texas, Charlotte and Western Kentucky.

On Saturday versus UTEP, the Owls had a 21-14 halftime lead but were outscored 24-7 from there in a 38-28 loss. QB Jake Constantine had 183 yards with two scores, and Cameron Montgomery led the rush with nine carries for 78 yards.

The Bulldogs are 1-4-1 ATS in their last six overall and 1-4-1 ATS in their last six on turf. LA Tech is 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven conference games.

Meanwhile, the Owls are 2-6 ATS in their last eight on turf and 1-4 ATS in their last five home games. Rice is 0-4 ATS in their last four overall.

PICK: I’m going to stay with Rice. The Owls had a good first half in their last game against UTEP, and eventually collected 390 total yards and 22 first downs. Rice gave up 486 yards on the other side however, a symptom of the second-half rundown.

As for Louisiana Tech, they looked really out of sorts against a not-so-good Southern Miss team in their last outing. The Bulldogs had five turnovers, nine penalties and just 4.1 yards per play. I expect better play here, but not enough for the cover.
