The USC Trojans and BYU Cougars square off Saturday night in week 13 college football action from LA Memorial Coliseum. BYU is coming off a game versus Georgia Southern. In that one the Cougars won by 17 points. As for USC, they played UCLA back on Saturday. The Trojans ended up losing big. BYU stormed out of the gate this year with wins over Arizona, Utah, Arizona State, South Florida and Utah State. After losses to Boise State and Baylor, the Cougars bounced back with wins over Washington State, Virginia and Idaho State.
In the Georgia Southern game, BYU scored points in each quarter during a 34-17 win. QB Jaren Hall finished with 312 yards and two scores. Tyler Allgeier led the rush with 136 yards and a TD, and Gunner Romney had five catches for 87 yards.
Over on the Trojans’ side, they went 3-3 over their first six games this year with wins over San Jose State, Washington State and Colorado. USC would then lose to Notre Dame, beat Arizona and fall to Arizona State.
In the matchup versus UCLA, the Trojans were down 28-17 at halftime and gave up double-digit points during the final three quarters in a 62-33 loss. QB Jaxson Dart posted 325 yards with one TD and one pick, and Keaontay Ingram had 96 yards on 17 carries.
BYU is 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight in November and 1-4-1 ATS versus a team with a losing record. The Cougars are 1-5 ATS in their last six road games.
Meanwhile, USC is 3-11 ATS in the last 14 non-conference games and 1-4 ATS in their last five in November. The Trojans are 0-4 ATS in their last four after an ATS loss.
PICK: I’m sticking with BYU. The Cougars were great on offense in the Georgia Southern game, posting 507 yards with 7.3 yards per play and 26 first downs. The defense came up with a couple of turnovers during the win as well.
As for USC, they notched 484 yards themselves but also gave up 609 yards and 30 first downs on the other side. The Trojans kept the ball moving and scored in every quarter but couldn’t keep up. USC should match up better here, though. It’ll be a very interesting game.
