The Army Black Knights and Missouri Tigers clash Wednesday night in the college football Armed Forces Bowl action from Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas. Missouri finished off the regular season at 6-6 overall. The Tigers lost to Arkansas in their last appearance. As for the Knights, they went 8-4 this year and are coming off a tough loss to Navy. Missouri went 3-3 over their first six games with wins over Central Michigan, Southeast Missouri State and North Texas. The Tigers repeated that feat in the final half-dozen games with losses to Texas A&M, Georgia and Arkansas.

In the loss to Arkansas on November 26, the Tigers fell behind 13-6 after the first half and couldn’t catch up in an eventual 34-17 loss. QB Connor Bazelak had just 65 yards passing, but Tyler Badie logged 219 yards and a score off 41 carries.

Over on the Army side, they started off the season with a nice four-game win streak before losses to Ball State, Wisconsin and Wake Forest. The Knights beat Air Force, Bucknell, UMass and Liberty in the next four before a loss to Navy.

In the December 11 loss to Navy, the Black Knights had an early 13-7 lead but couldn’t score in the second half during a 17-13 result. Christian Anderson threw for 108 yards on 7-of-18 passing, and also led the rush with 67 yards and a score from nine carries.

The Tigers are 8-21 ATS in their last 29 overall and 2-6 ATS in their last eight on grass. Missouri is 3-15 ATS in their last 18 after an AS loss and 2-9 ATS versus a team with a winning record.

Meanwhile, the Knights are 4-0 ATS in their last four after an ATS loss and 4-1 ATS in their last five bowl games. Army is 12-4-1 ATS in the last 17 in December and 6-2-1 ATS in the last nine neutral-site games.

PICK: I’m going to try Army in this one. I could really go either way, however; this should be a great matchup. In any case, Army was stopped cold in the second half on multiple occasions in the Navy game. The Knights ended up with 4.7 yards per play, 232 total yards and 11 first downs in a very physical outing. The good news is that Army was disciplined with zero turnovers and just two penalties.

As for Missouri, they’ve lost to some very good teams in their last half-dozen games but otherwise they’ve closed the season strong. I like this matchup to be very tight the whole way, with Army eking out a cover in a run-heavy, low-scoring affair. Should be a good one.
