The Arkansas Razorbacks and South Carolina Gamecocks meet Saturday in week 2 SEC college football action from Razorback Stadium. The Gamecocks just finished up their opener versus Georgia State. In that one, South Carolina cruised to a 21-point win. As for the Razorbacks, they played Cincinnati in their first game. Arkansas ended up winning by a touchdown. South Carolina had some ups and downs in their 2021 campaign, ultimately finishing 7-6 overall and 3-5 in the SEC. That would place the Gamecocks in fifth place in the East Division. South Carolina took an invite to the Duke’s Mayo Bowl and beat North Carolina 38-21.

In their first game of the 2022 year versus Georgia State, South Carolina scored in each of the final three quarters in a 35-14 win. Spencer Rattler managed 227 yards with a TD and two picks, while Jalen Brooks led the receivers on four grabs for 88 yards.

Over on the Razorbacks’ side, they did fairly well themselves last season. Arkansas would land at 9-4 overall and 4-4 in SEC play for a third-place finish in the West Division. The Razorbacks took on Penn State in the Outback Bowl, where they won 24-10.

Matched up against Cincinnati in their opener, Arkansas had a 14-0 lead at the break but ultimately had to hang on for a 31-24 victory. QB KJ Jefferson managed 223 yards and three scores. Raheim Sanders added 117 rush yards, and Trey Knox caught six balls for 75 yards and two scores.

PICK: I’m staying with Arkansas. The Razorbacks had a tough matchup right out of the gate this season and managed to fend off a talented Cincinnati team. The Razorbacks notched 447 total yards (224 rushing) with 6.3 yards per play and 23 first downs in a solid all-around effort.

As for South Carolina, they weren’t quite as dominant statistically as they probably should have been in their first outing of the year, but it was still a solid win. The Gamecocks did have a couple of interceptions and went just 3-of-14 on third-down tries, so they’ve got a few areas to work on at practice this week.
