The Memphis Tigers and North Texas Mean Green clash Saturday in week 4 college football action from Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium. North Texas is coming off a game versus UNLV. In that matchup the Mean Green fell in a blowout. As for Memphis, they played Arkansas State in their last outing. The Tigers would go on to win by 12 points there. North Texas kicked off their 2022 season versus UTEP and things went well in a 31-13 blowout win. The Mean Green’s second outing wasn’t so hot, though; they fell 48-10 to SMU. On September 10 in game three North Texas got back into the win column with a 59-27 result over Texas Southern.

In the Saturday matchup versus UNLV, North Texas was trailing by just three points at the break but lost steam in the second half during a 58-27 loss. QB Austin Aune finished with 305 yards, two scores and two picks. Ayo Adeyi rushed 11 times for 73 yards as well.

Over on the Memphis side, they gave up 28 points in the first half of their opener versus Mississippi State, ultimately falling 49-23 in a rough outcome. In game two, the Tigers got their first victory against Navy, scoring in every quarter during a 37-13 result.

Matched up against Arkansas State, the Tigers outscored the Red Wolves 23-15 in a wild fourth quarter for an eventual 44-32 victory. Seth Henigan managed 360 yards and three scores. Jevyon Ducker logged 76 rush yards and a TD, and Gabriel Rogers caught five balls for 86 yards.

The Green are 6-2 ATS in the last eight road games and 4-14 ATS versus a team with a winning record. North Texas is 5-2 ATS in the last seven on turf.

Meanwhile, the Tigers are 1-4 ATS in the last five non-conference games and 1-5 ATS in their last six overall. Memphis is 3-13 ATS in their last 16 after a straight-up win.

PICK: I’m probably going Memphis here but not touching it. The Tigers took a while to pull away from Arkansas State in their last outing, but the team eventually logged 547 total yards with 25 first downs. Memphis was a little sketchy on third-down tries (5-of-13) but overall played a reasonably solid game.

As for North Texas, they get credit for hanging around with UNLV for the first three quarters. The Green gave up 28 first downs and 576 yards to the Rebels though, and it’s hard to win with numbers like that. I like North Texas to hang around here as well before an eventual Memphis cover, but it seems pretty close.
