The East Carolina Pirates and Memphis Tigers square off Saturday in a week 7 AAC college football game from Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.

The Memphis Tigers will look to rebound from a heartbreaking 33-32 loss at the hands of Houston to snap their four-game win streak and to fall to 4-2 on the year. Seth Henigan has thrown for 1,517 yards, 10 touchdowns and an interception on 63.6% passing while Jevyon Tucker has a team-high 225 rushing yards. Asa Martin has 223 rushing yards and Brandon Thomas has 221 rushing yards with a team-high 7 rushing TDs. Gabriel Rogers leads Memphis’ receiving group with 22 grabs for 302 yards while three more Tigers have 200+ receiving yards, including Caden Prieskorn has a team-high 7 touchdowns and 219 receiving yards. Three more Tigers have 100+ receiving yards this season. On defense, Xavier Cullens has a team-high 47 total tackles and a pair of interceptions while Quindell Johnson has a team-high 3 interceptions. As a unit, Memphis’ defense has 8 sacks and 9 interceptions this season.

The East Carolina Pirates will try to will look to get back above .500 after alternating wins and losses in each of their last 4 games following a 24-9 loss to Tulane in their last game. Holton Ahlers has thrown for 1,820 yards, 16 touchdowns and 5 interceptions on 67.2% passing while Keaton Mitchell leads ECU’s ground attack with 433 rushing yards and 3 TDs while Rahjai Harris has 238 rushing yards and 5 scores. Isaiah Winstead has a team-high 43 grabs for 565 yards while C.J. Johnson has 471 receiving yards and Jaylen Johnson and Ryan Jones each have 200+ receiving yards as well this season. On defense, Gerard Stringer has a team-high 34 total tackles the ECU defense has 13 sacks and 3 interceptions.

Memphis is 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games overall and 1-6 ATS in their last 7 road games while the over is 10-4-1 in their last 15 games in October. East Carolina is 6-2 ATS in their last 8 home games and 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games overall while the over is 10-4 in their last 14 games against a team with a winning record.

I get the case to be made for East Carolina laying the points at home, mainly because ECU has a solid offense that can pass the ball against a Memphis unit that’s one of the worst in the country defending the pass. However, this is a Memphis team that can hang points in bunches and while last week was an epic collapse for Memphis (and it’ll be interesting to see how they respond), it was still another solid offensive performance for the Tigers. Memphis has the ability to keep this game close and I think East Carolina wins this game by a field goal if Memphis doesn’t win it outright. Give me the Tigers and the points here.
