Clemson was able to roll through their first three games of the year. The victories came 41-10 over Georgia Tech, 35-12 over Furman then 48-20 over Louisiana Tech. Game four was a tough one versus Wake Forest but Clemson still managed a 51-45 overtime victory.
In last weekend’s matchup versus NC State, Clemson scored points in every quarter (and allowed points in every quarter) in a 30-20 win. QB DJ Uiagalelei finished with 209 yards and a score, while also leading the rush with 73 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries.
Over on the Boston College side, they took a close 22-21 loss to Rutgers right out of the gate this year then fell again to Virginia Tech 27-10. Game three was a 38-17 win over Maine, but the Eagles fell in their next outing to Florida State 44-14.
On Saturday versus Louisville, Boston College was down 33-28 going into the final quarter but ultimately snagged the 34-33 comeback win. Quarterback Phil Jurkovec finished with 304 yards, three scores and a pick. Zay Flowers led the receivers on 151 yards and two TDs from five catches.
PICK: I’m going Clemson. The Tigers put up an impressive effort against NC State, keeping the opposition at bay with 354 total yards and 20 first downs. Clemson benefitted from 11 NC State penalties and a couple of turnovers but they also committed nine penalties themselves.
As for Boston College, they get credit for powering out a gutsy win on Saturday despite being overpowered in a lot of categories. The Eagles committed 13 penalties and three turnovers during the game, so it really was an improbable comeback. Clemson should be in control here if they play to their capabilities.
