Clemson stormed out of the gate with a series of wins to kick off 2022. The Tigers took out Georgia Tech 41-10, Furman 35-12 and Louisiana Tech 48-20 in their first trio. Clemson then got by Wake Forest 51-45 in OT and NC State 30-20 in game five.
In the Boston College matchup, Clemson scored points in every quarter and eventually emerged victorious 31-3. Quarterback Phil Jurkovec finished on 188 yards from 19-of-40 passing, and Zay Flowers led the receivers with eight grabs for 75 yards.
Over on the Florida State side, they also kicked off the year with a win streak. The Seminoles took out Duquesne 47-7, LSU 24-23, Louisville 35-31 and Boston College 44-14 in their first quartet. Florida State’s win streak was broken with a 31-21 loss to Wake Forest, though.
Back on Saturday versus NC State, the Seminoles blew a 17-3 halftime lead and couldn’t score in the final two quarters during a disappointing 19-17 defeat. QB Jordan Travis managed 181 yards with one TD and two picks while also leading the rush on 108 yards from seven carries.
The Tigers are 6-1 ATS in their last seven conference games and 5-1 ATS in their last six road games. Clemson is 20-9 ATS in the last 29 after an ATS win.
Meanwhile, the Seminoles are 5-1 ATS in their last six conference games and 4-1 ATS in their last five overall. Florida State is 4-1 ATS in the last five after an ATS win.
PICK: I’m going to go with Clemson. The Tigers put up a pretty well-rounded win over Boston College in their last outing, even though they went a rough 5-of-14 on third-down tries. Clemson would finish with 364 total yards, 19 first downs, one turnover and just two penalties. They’ve scored at least 30 points in every game so far this year.
As for Florida State, they’ve got to be reeling after the rough loss to NC State on Saturday. The Seminoles were pretty equal with the Wolfpack in most measurements, but the 10 penalties and two turnovers didn’t help. Things won’t get any easier this week.
