The Syracuse Orange and NC State Wolfpack clash Saturday in a week 7 ACC college football game from the JMA Wireless Dome.
The NC State Wolfpack come into this game looking to build on their 5-1 record after a 19-17 win over Florida State last time out. Devin Leary’s thrown for 1,265 yards, 11 touchdowns and 4 picks on 61.1% passing while Demie Sumo-Karngbaye leads NC State with 299 rushing yards and 3 TDs and Jordan Houston has 260 rushing yards as well this season. Thayer Thomas has a team-high 301 receiving yards while five other NC State receivers have at least 100 receiving yards this season. On defense, Drake Thomas has a team-high 40 total tackles while Aydan White, Shyheim Battle and Tyler Baker-Williams each have a pair of interceptions this season.
The Syracuse Orange will hope to build on their 5-0 start to the year after a 59-0 win over Wagner in their last action prior to last week’s bye. Garrett Shrader has thrown for 1,224 yards, 10 touchdowns and an interception on 70.9% passing while also rushing for 219 yards and 5 scores. Sean Tucker has a team-high 546 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns while Oronde Gadsden II has a team-high 23 receptions for 366 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns this season. Three other Orange receivers have at least 100 receiving yards as well this season. On defense, Mikel Jones has a team-high 33 total tackles while Garrett Williams has a pair of interceptions and Syracuse’s defense has combined for 13 sacks this season.
NC State is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 conference games. Syracuse is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 home games while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 conference games.
I get the reasoning for backing the Orange at home here, but Syracuse has played some tight games against FBS opposition in recent weeks, as their pair of home wins against Virginia and Purdue came by a combined five points. On the other side, NC State barely won their road opener to start the year against East Carolina and lost to Clemson in their last road game, but this is still a really good NC State team that we’re catching more than a field goal with here. I think Syracuse squeaks by if NC State doesn’t win this game outright, so give me the Wolfpack and the points here.
